For those that don't know what I'm talking about <a href="http://rob-agardenersdiary.blogspot.com/2022/12/j-and-l-seeds-sub-arctic-plenty.html" target="_blank">[Click Here]</a>. So below is a picture of my main crop Tomato plants, the one on the left being from the batch of seeds that I sowed at Christmas. The other two plants are a couple of different varieties sown around ten weeks later. As you can see, there is still a bit of a difference although it's fair to say that the ones sown at a later time are not too far behind but even if I end up getting a fresh Tomato even just a couple of weeks sooner I'm sure to appreciate it.</p><div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;"><a href="https://blogger.googleusercontent.com/img/b/R29vZ2xl/AVvXsEhcJ7AHu8KF94-Qc81wct3Pdu95vvNQebz3CY8SmVhJ7QqL54dPc-0rry66wVd8ilEPGB2VcBQ4lSUP-zrimPrSpii5Vb8U93IJY8_GjBygzXQnLVwNiv40IjEEBbaAW5hx0JPFV9JiLOThbQaGNwF3CpCSMK1Yhu2UZ-uxuo0F5TBR_ZZlFDqdspwH/s4032/20230618_082308.JPG" style="margin-left: 1em; margin-right: 1em;"><img border="0" data-original-height="3024" data-original-width="4032" height="480" src="https://blogger.googleusercontent.com/img/b/R29vZ2xl/AVvXsEhcJ7AHu8KF94-Qc81wct3Pdu95vvNQebz3CY8SmVhJ7QqL54dPc-0rry66wVd8ilEPGB2VcBQ4lSUP-zrimPrSpii5Vb8U93IJY8_GjBygzXQnLVwNiv40IjEEBbaAW5hx0JPFV9JiLOThbQaGNwF3CpCSMK1Yhu2UZ-uxuo0F5TBR_ZZlFDqdspwH/w640-h480/20230618_082308.JPG" width="640" /></a></div><br /><p><br /></p>Robhttp://www.blogger.com/profile/04830090701346321489noreply@blogger.com2tag:blogger.com,1999:blog-924402334800183199.post-70261637842410822982023-06-11T11:54:00.000+01:002023-06-11T11:54:09.320+01:00Rose And Clematis.<p> Rose and Clematis, it sounds like a tv detective series, in fact it's just a couple of plants growing by our front door. The rose we had at our old house and brought with us, which just goes to show that you shouldn't be put off from moving such things to a different location if you feel the need. This was an established plant of many years at that location and has moved just fine. The most important thing when planting anything is to never let it dry out, especially if it's an older plant where because of its size you've had to hack the roots around a little.</p><p>The Clematis was something that we inherited with the property. It's easy to be tempted when moving somewhere new to have a clear out so you can put your own mark on the place. But if it's the winter months it's not always possible to tell the worth of what you plan to chuck out. I'm glad we kept the Clematis as I think it goes well with the Rose. I think they have become good friends.</p><div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;"><a href="https://blogger.googleusercontent.com/img/b/R29vZ2xl/AVvXsEjjPMkaFwsIhtGWGXhU__NJbFAqHGS4NDPCoYfXzDXys49fqzGGZRNs2WhgKDWxrkSAnpoeX_8ngc3R4nrxBV0GuCQTUmWuQulJAcPITZtq0AArXQaDe9CPMw2kbpaoFhhktDCQ-GjOAIaONb8VCB9Wnp9Fi3KGeYtXdih12vqudrwD49w6Khi4pZc-/s4032/20230610_084228.JPG" imageanchor="1" style="margin-left: 1em; margin-right: 1em;"><img border="0" data-original-height="4032" data-original-width="3024" height="640" src="https://blogger.googleusercontent.com/img/b/R29vZ2xl/AVvXsEjjPMkaFwsIhtGWGXhU__NJbFAqHGS4NDPCoYfXzDXys49fqzGGZRNs2WhgKDWxrkSAnpoeX_8ngc3R4nrxBV0GuCQTUmWuQulJAcPITZtq0AArXQaDe9CPMw2kbpaoFhhktDCQ-GjOAIaONb8VCB9Wnp9Fi3KGeYtXdih12vqudrwD49w6Khi4pZc-/w480-h640/20230610_084228.JPG" width="480" /></a></div><br /><div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;"><a href="https://blogger.googleusercontent.com/img/b/R29vZ2xl/AVvXsEjxp-cIJaGYyOJYgSeB1GbvxBC0nM-DnPd5FCFBSIflrBVa7rISm20FKillHOPYEIe7LWgRGscBxfjbkLtHQGGpbkmQKwr_N_zckm2T8JgGLzo8yWa6Lpi0h6C6dZTbXITFiqLFJCkuW4dVN_4K3eSo5bptD64ZQFO9DObL2bm-dgbk-i8wZcAak8tq/s4032/20230610_084242.JPG" imageanchor="1" style="margin-left: 1em; margin-right: 1em;"><img border="0" data-original-height="4032" data-original-width="3024" height="640" src="https://blogger.googleusercontent.com/img/b/R29vZ2xl/AVvXsEjxp-cIJaGYyOJYgSeB1GbvxBC0nM-DnPd5FCFBSIflrBVa7rISm20FKillHOPYEIe7LWgRGscBxfjbkLtHQGGpbkmQKwr_N_zckm2T8JgGLzo8yWa6Lpi0h6C6dZTbXITFiqLFJCkuW4dVN_4K3eSo5bptD64ZQFO9DObL2bm-dgbk-i8wZcAak8tq/w480-h640/20230610_084242.JPG" width="480" /></a></div><br /><p><br /></p>Robhttp://www.blogger.com/profile/04830090701346321489noreply@blogger.com10tag:blogger.com,1999:blog-924402334800183199.post-39963926638665037162023-06-09T12:30:00.001+01:002023-06-09T13:20:02.290+01:00A Shady Corner. <div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;">This little corner receives some shade through out the day from a pollarded Ash tree. After lifting them in the Autumn I just trimmed them back and put them in to a seed tray with a bit of compost around the roots. I didn't go to a lot of trouble with them as i look on them more of a bonus than a necessity as i have quite a few rooted cuttings from them already. So today I took them out of the trays and threw away any that were no good then tidied up what was left before potting them up to hopefully grow on to make useful plants for this summers bedding. <div><br /></div><div style="text-align: center;">Below is a picture of one of the trays of over wintered bedding Geraniums.</div><div style="text-align: center;">They don't look very appealing in this state but we will see what can be done with them.</div><div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;"><a href="https://blogger.googleusercontent.com/img/b/R29vZ2xl/AVvXsEiZuZXy9fxzGOSk8Q1i-f6W-uEn6kS7yJx6KRSf5CYVCjxNDtfJk6N40dNRcuRquqoAyNLVDlsP9gtNm_0p-aZu4QSkqAkfsfvdZqPiFwSWtVpl06aYKdTQA4lvdd8VS0bAcbCqKIIQeRhVt78gKy1bSDfngo2OC6LF-R-3Pf6V8Ifh2m4bVYP4kwhz/s4032/IMG_1556.JPG" imageanchor="1" style="margin-left: 1em; margin-right: 1em;"><img border="0" data-original-height="3024" data-original-width="4032" height="480" src="https://blogger.googleusercontent.com/img/b/R29vZ2xl/AVvXsEiZuZXy9fxzGOSk8Q1i-f6W-uEn6kS7yJx6KRSf5CYVCjxNDtfJk6N40dNRcuRquqoAyNLVDlsP9gtNm_0p-aZu4QSkqAkfsfvdZqPiFwSWtVpl06aYKdTQA4lvdd8VS0bAcbCqKIIQeRhVt78gKy1bSDfngo2OC6LF-R-3Pf6V8Ifh2m4bVYP4kwhz/w640-h480/IMG_1556.JPG" width="640" /></a></div><div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;"><br /></div><div><div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;">Below is after they have been cleaned up and potted on.</div><div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;">There's still not a lot to shout about but we will see how they progress.</div><div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;">

Today is my first day back at work after the Christmas break. It felt strange going back after three weeks away but I guess I will soon get back in to things.<div><br /></div><div>The most important job of the new year is going to be finding a new head gardener and getting them settled in to the job which all takes time and Spring is on its way, things need to be sorted before then.</div><div><br /></div><div>On entering the greenhouse I could see that a rat has been making itself at home there as a lot of the small pots were knocked over. Unfortunately this situation had been noted and reported some weeks before Christmas but clearly nothing has been done about it. I say that this is unfortunate because it seems that losing two head gardeners in six months has taught them nothing. It becomes frustrating and a little pointless when you are trying to achieve something and the people you are doing it for show little interest.</div><div><br /></div><div style="text-align: center;">Rats at work in the greenhouse.</div><div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;"><a href="https://blogger.googleusercontent.com/img/b/R29vZ2xl/AVvXsEjVABo2rNcDJ57mlt6zW5_fCeGWZa0_59krRviXnzJWuNk__LE_BOF9vA2VbNg1s3Iwz3yNAKwDdP1HrfM82mIWWNlj7lj2yZc3TQoEwKCCx6R7DnfuU254-ZaTEyiEdl2NftUwVZ7EEnvzy1AsMO_ZnWfWtCty4aF8sZk8PWW3z2CxYFb_FKHhX78i/s3504/IMG_20230109_081250_809.jpg" imageanchor="1" style="margin-left: 1em; margin-right: 1em;"><img border="0" data-original-height="3504" data-original-width="3504" height="640" src="https://blogger.googleusercontent.com/img/b/R29vZ2xl/AVvXsEjVABo2rNcDJ57mlt6zW5_fCeGWZa0_59krRviXnzJWuNk__LE_BOF9vA2VbNg1s3Iwz3yNAKwDdP1HrfM82mIWWNlj7lj2yZc3TQoEwKCCx6R7DnfuU254-ZaTEyiEdl2NftUwVZ7EEnvzy1AsMO_ZnWfWtCty4aF8sZk8PWW3z2CxYFb_FKHhX78i/w640-h640/IMG_20230109_081250_809.jpg" width="640" /></a></div><br /><div><br /></div>Robhttp://www.blogger.com/profile/04830090701346321489noreply@blogger.com4tag:blogger.com,1999:blog-924402334800183199.post-24783065415572568082023-01-07T13:56:00.001+00:002023-01-07T13:58:27.802+00:00Timothy - Michael's Shoe Tree.<p> A couple of entries past I showed a picture of the discarded christmas trees, in fact the picture below. Welllll! The head gardener went and had one of his brainwaves, take a look at the second picture to reveal all.</p><div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;"><a href="https://blogger.googleusercontent.com/img/b/R29vZ2xl/AVvXsEga9pQI0W3AB9lOt9PCfZgTzjQMIhYhioJay6tnGXqj_W7AzdhrnjO7BgdPu0gjE6qhNKPhydLJw5Ehlffr9N64y37U1FMRu8Cc8ePfLlMQ9SuygYZXeQrLwNnqOqOhe83yVvgCJ0aeV98y-6xsAn_yQkm4LgL9Y2So6rS_xMfMdE_JdNaXCtvButpV/s4032/20230103_082107.JPG" style="margin-left: 1em; margin-right: 1em;"><img border="0" data-original-height="4032" data-original-width="3024" height="640" src="https://blogger.googleusercontent.com/img/b/R29vZ2xl/AVvXsEga9pQI0W3AB9lOt9PCfZgTzjQMIhYhioJay6tnGXqj_W7AzdhrnjO7BgdPu0gjE6qhNKPhydLJw5Ehlffr9N64y37U1FMRu8Cc8ePfLlMQ9SuygYZXeQrLwNnqOqOhe83yVvgCJ0aeV98y-6xsAn_yQkm4LgL9Y2So6rS_xMfMdE_JdNaXCtvButpV/w480-h640/20230103_082107.JPG" width="480" /></a></div>Timothy - Michael showing off his brill idea. Apparently he got fed up of tripping over badly parked shoes and boots when herding his toys so he went and invented a shoe tree. I have it in the garage and it is proving to be very useful. I think the official time for doing so is Friday but Vicki is busy towards the end of the week so we thought it would be good to get tidy for the weekend. As the trees were starting to lose their needle quite badly we cut the branches off were they stud and bagged them up and it worked well and saved messing up the whole house dragging the trees through it.<a href="https://blogger.googleusercontent.com/img/b/R29vZ2xl/AVvXsEiWsvEIWBkDX9gLC10b5mdU_4SIsKQP_cldUsi3DdVokjJsm_PH1v_D3MmodL_zxhZGCEKgrbMy9cYJZFD3mRniPTdwKAuXLOdFZ_ARSqkO7Pb8lziItJij5IdGGBzb7UPUTv-82fbLA8c/s1600/IMG_ORG_1672904842859.jpeg" imageanchor="1" style="text-align: center;"><img border="0" src="https://blogger.googleusercontent.com/img/b/R29vZ2xl/AVvXsEiWsvEIWBkDX9gLC10b5mdU_4SIsKQP_cldUsi3DdVokjJsm_PH1v_D3MmodL_zxhZGCEKgrbMy9cYJZFD3mRniPTdwKAuXLOdFZ_ARSqkO7Pb8lziItJij5IdGGBzb7UPUTv-82fbLA8c/s1600/IMG_ORG_1672904842859.jpeg" alt="" width="480" height="640" data-original-width="3024" data-original-height="4032"></a></p><br><br>Robhttp://www.blogger.com/profile/04830090701346321489noreply@blogger.com0tag:blogger.com,1999:blog-924402334800183199.post-78149305308752725332022-12-29T20:11:00.001+00:002022-12-29T20:11:22.437+00:00The Return Of Ratty.<p>Today has been another lazy day, mostly on account of still being mostly one handed. Also this morning we had a friend called Pat come to visit so I was being sociable. I noticed during one of my trips to the garage for logs that it appears that the rat is back. I caught it pilfering the apples a few weeks back so I moved them out and the rat has not been seen since but as I say I've noticed that there is evidence of a return so the trap has been baited and set so we will see what happens next.</p><p>I took this picture of the sunrise whilst on this morning's dog walk. This is as it came and not enhanced with any kind of filters.</p><div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;"><a href="https://blogger.googleusercontent.com/img/b/R29vZ2xl/AVvXsEgG4F8NlYrU4vHdGuarltxpNoj8lAf7xbMAEqQLv9N2OerjoOajroa0PlQJ-Hzs68ZRdfuOffqMPZp33f-tBgVSGMK2nSfTHs9god1xr5k73S5s2_M1H0lwUmPTrZG6ib5BqFtyIHM6lya_hh0wd1qFEgSCkFq4-H8gAmg5ijMwzV73h_Mk7U3imUyN/s4032/20221229_082356.JPG" imageanchor="1" style="margin-left: 1em; margin-right: 1em;"><img border="0" data-original-height="2203" data-original-width="4032" height="350" src="https://blogger.googleusercontent.com/img/b/R29vZ2xl/AVvXsEgG4F8NlYrU4vHdGuarltxpNoj8lAf7xbMAEqQLv9N2OerjoOajroa0PlQJ-Hzs68ZRdfuOffqMPZp33f-tBgVSGMK2nSfTHs9god1xr5k73S5s2_M1H0lwUmPTrZG6ib5BqFtyIHM6lya_hh0wd1qFEgSCkFq4-H8gAmg5ijMwzV73h_Mk7U3imUyN/w640-h350/20221229_082356.JPG" width="640" /></a></div>I sowed some herb seeds a couple of weeks ago so I was pleased to see the Parsley has germinated. I am no different in this respect one of which I carried out today. Every year for many years now, before packing up the gardening until after the new year, I've made a small sowing of Tomato seed. It's way too early really as it is still a long time before the conditions are right for growing Tomatoes properly. However provided the seed germinates it is possible with a little care and trouble to bring on the plants to eventually fruit. Usually I just sow a standard variety from seed left over from the year before but this year I have brought a variety called Sub Arctic Plenty which as the name might suggest is especially suited to cooler conditions. Below is the name of the seed merchant for anyone interested.</p><p style="text-align: center;"><a href="http://www.jandlseeds.com/" target="_blank">J & L Seeds</a></p><div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;"><a href="https://blogger.googleusercontent.com/img/b/R29vZ2xl/AVvXsEhNOEhznqcnHBzQ3JAQ7hYfxX0swiiqpV4REgntnK2uL4hPiRDEiqG3acj9LSd0ax1GlSNq28IeLUdceUn4nucRWApkId4bu7rryPiQxkoMBP6pu6NUH3U4xpMXahWVetwmF66oMi1kB7QsWdH_j6e85JUhyvzftjURKHIRLLS6J1Tsw-ZAVYLVns3C/s4032/20221223_143931.JPG" imageanchor="1" style="margin-left: 1em; margin-right: 1em;"><img border="0" data-original-height="3024" data-original-width="4032" height="480" src="https://blogger.googleusercontent.com/img/b/R29vZ2xl/AVvXsEhNOEhznqcnHBzQ3JAQ7hYfxX0swiiqpV4REgntnK2uL4hPiRDEiqG3acj9LSd0ax1GlSNq28IeLUdceUn4nucRWApkId4bu7rryPiQxkoMBP6pu6NUH3U4xpMXahWVetwmF66oMi1kB7QsWdH_j6e85JUhyvzftjURKHIRLLS6J1Tsw-ZAVYLVns3C/w640-h480/20221223_143931.JPG" width="640" /></a></div>I only require two or three plants which hopefully this amount of seed will provide. I don't suppose it's cost effective to save them except they are of a colour combination that we like and I may not get then again this year so in that respect they are worth keeping.</p><p>In this first picture you can see the untreated plant, lots of dead and decaying matter which must be removed.</p><div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;"><a href="https://blogger.googleusercontent.com/img/b/R29vZ2xl/AVvXsEhkftWZcjLcf8ztxGSES7x_GN342a1ol3nFf7WSr7BFIScb_tnH1-h49ukcEyAvC7faF8N3e-NRyTqABsmXbyUH_vwxWuydd9CYejdkLtGMLgIMtn4Ng2xzHl74d-1qzsFgY082W8BI1Zp1RCX50HOkNipUHXdAbDxAia7LU70UdzNK3WcMuvln81-6/s4032/20221216_120726.JPG" imageanchor="1" style="margin-left: 1em; margin-right: 1em;"><img border="0" data-original-height="4032" data-original-width="3024" height="640" src="https://blogger.googleusercontent.com/img/b/R29vZ2xl/AVvXsEhkftWZcjLcf8ztxGSES7x_GN342a1ol3nFf7WSr7BFIScb_tnH1-h49ukcEyAvC7faF8N3e-NRyTqABsmXbyUH_vwxWuydd9CYejdkLtGMLgIMtn4Ng2xzHl74d-1qzsFgY082W8BI1Zp1RCX50HOkNipUHXdAbDxAia7LU70UdzNK3WcMuvln81-6/w480-h640/20221216_120726.JPG" width="480" /></a></div>In this next picture is the finished article ready to be boxed and stored. I don't really understand why as he was planning new projects right up to the last time I saw him which was only five days ago. From what I've been told it sounds like he couldn't cope and has had some kind of a break down.</p><p>So today I am back in charge of the gardens so I decided to tidy up this Ivy growing on the wall by the garden house.</p><div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;"><a href="https://blogger.googleusercontent.com/img/b/R29vZ2xl/AVvXsEhti1tJNuCg2CPE-YAziahl8AB0dXwX4JzDWk0DC3Gru-x1AlcKVdzzntBQJhrxCNKPzpB-jRnAcdw8yMIGcEAuEzmp_QEJqa2xC7PWgaHTarYxNU3FN0Sy1t560WpBfsNn6MRbUFMHPxEZp9x8GU9JpZLt3J5HAUhLH26VlBEM2QzRQkn3sjBOaJ7f/s4032/20221205_111200.JPG" imageanchor="1" style="margin-left: 1em; margin-right: 1em;"><img border="0" data-original-height="3024" data-original-width="4032" height="480" src="https://blogger.googleusercontent.com/img/b/R29vZ2xl/AVvXsEhti1tJNuCg2CPE-YAziahl8AB0dXwX4JzDWk0DC3Gru-x1AlcKVdzzntBQJhrxCNKPzpB-jRnAcdw8yMIGcEAuEzmp_QEJqa2xC7PWgaHTarYxNU3FN0Sy1t560WpBfsNn6MRbUFMHPxEZp9x8GU9JpZLt3J5HAUhLH26VlBEM2QzRQkn3sjBOaJ7f/w640-h480/20221205_111200.JPG" width="640" /></a></div>It was just a matter of giving it a bit of a trim to keep it under control.<br /><div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;"><a href="https://blogger.googleusercontent.com/img/b/R29vZ2xl/AVvXsEj3Oru1FsQ3sCynAGLnZa02akFsyPbiRSfIMJThwYjx9g5Mfysm6FqfR47XaP1mUj_XCeVti3fqHMj2u4dB1AZQVqDavTZUu7FkKFjwbZWF6AusT-D3bKSvbmLKDwI2Dg4Zl_ps8Dr5feTEuIo30vi86F4Gfa1vh9CeRbfMglf0LUTFlY1wSfCy0DSB/s4032/20221206_142043.JPG" imageanchor="1" style="margin-left: 1em; margin-right: 1em;"><img border="0" data-original-height="3024" data-original-width="4032" height="480" src="https://blogger.googleusercontent.com/img/b/R29vZ2xl/AVvXsEj3Oru1FsQ3sCynAGLnZa02akFsyPbiRSfIMJThwYjx9g5Mfysm6FqfR47XaP1mUj_XCeVti3fqHMj2u4dB1AZQVqDavTZUu7FkKFjwbZWF6AusT-D3bKSvbmLKDwI2Dg4Zl_ps8Dr5feTEuIo30vi86F4Gfa1vh9CeRbfMglf0LUTFlY1wSfCy0DSB/w640-h480/20221206_142043.JPG" width="640" /></a></div><br /><p><br /></p>Robhttp://www.blogger.com/profile/04830090701346321489noreply@blogger.com2tag:blogger.com,1999:blog-924402334800183199.post-26524498751665140912022-12-10T17:18:00.001+00:002022-12-21T20:48:05.795+00:00A Different View Of Christmas.<p> Below are a couple of pictures of our Christmas trees taken from outside the house. After this job was completed I set to and laid a few of the paving slabs that I have collected for the floor. This sort of work is not something I'm good at and I'm sure I should probably be using cement or something but I don't have any so I'm just laying them straight on to the gravel. I've got them level and they don't wobble around or anything so that's good. When I get a chance I will buy some sand and brush into the cracks and then keep my fingers crossed they stay where they are. Another problem has been that the slabs are not all the same size so the gaps between the paving are bigger in some places.</p><div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;"><a href="https://blogger.googleusercontent.com/img/b/R29vZ2xl/AVvXsEivOF3OrT8cXyWVdh9JKhBZ4MH3yEV0YmoxpEakZnRKpVgQoZjNYzP9YKEP_r6fWY545pz9zDnSR52cblz-VCVR6MR38SWuMYq6jFSAzidNAgEiP_ssYS4cgwDvH-FtZOCF_Px3uhEtzmxvheIeHzCSNsPiJ7yq4VcxGz9WkvM3G6cTUrPRq4GYSdoV/s4032/20220912_175708.JPG" imageanchor="1" style="margin-left: 1em; margin-right: 1em;"><img border="0" data-original-height="3024" data-original-width="4032" height="480" src="https://blogger.googleusercontent.com/img/b/R29vZ2xl/AVvXsEivOF3OrT8cXyWVdh9JKhBZ4MH3yEV0YmoxpEakZnRKpVgQoZjNYzP9YKEP_r6fWY545pz9zDnSR52cblz-VCVR6MR38SWuMYq6jFSAzidNAgEiP_ssYS4cgwDvH-FtZOCF_Px3uhEtzmxvheIeHzCSNsPiJ7yq4VcxGz9WkvM3G6cTUrPRq4GYSdoV/w640-h480/20220912_175708.JPG" width="640" /></a></div><br /><p><br /></p>Robhttp://www.blogger.com/profile/04830090701346321489noreply@blogger.com1
